When we think of cinemas or movie theatres in the present day, we normally take it for granted as it some something that can be easily visited and is present in almost all countries. However, if we are to look into the history of the movie theatre, one can see that the origins of the whole thing were something out of the ordinary. This article will provide you a brief timeline as to how moving pictures became a trend and was there to stay for the long run especially in the form of cinemas.

Late 19th century

Before even the cinema came to be, we have to understand the development of the camera and projector. These pieces of technologically were a centrepiece in many carnivals in France. The most popular being the arrival of a train at La Ciatot station.

Here, the inventors of the devices were able to take multiple pictures of a moving object and were able to project it like as if it was moving, but in reality, it was just a series of pictures being played in a series. Of course, at that time there was no sound, but it was certainly revolutionary. Just like that, moving pictures became a thing.

Mid-20th century

With the increase in popularity of moving pictures, there were many companies that took it to their advantage and made advancements by including sound into the moving pictures. At the time it was revolutionary.

Moreover, they were also able to make pictures into colour, albeit in a very rudimentary manner. Film makers would often colour each picture by hand before it was circulated for screening in movie theatres. Regardless, many people would flock to picture houses since it was affordable for even the working class of society.

Late 20th century

The late 20th century saw the rapid developments in the form of natural colour and visual effects. In other words, specialists found ways to make particular scenes look as real as possible with computer magic and illusions. Interestingly, the solutions used were quite simple and didn’t require so much technical knowledge.

Cinemas also resulted in a lot of changes as home theatre projectors would be constantly upgraded to screen movies with better quality and to a bigger screen. Thus, making the experience all the more realistic and entertaining to any patron. Of course, this also depended on the audience that regularly visits cinemas as well.

Present Day

The present-day has also seen much advancement in the field of moving pictures. Some of the most prominent being the surround sound systems and the quality of the pictures screened in cinemas. Another major breakthrough is the 3D projection of certain movies. This enables any patron to experience the movie like as if he or she is in the movie itself, making the experience all the more wholesome. Of course, this also requires you to wear special 3D glasses to make sure that you can experience the effect.
